Humpback Whales
While in Tonga we swam with humpback whales. If we can’t save the whales I don’t think we can save ourselves.
Beach Comb
While living on a boat in the Pacific walking the small strip of beach near the anchorage was at times the only exercise our shriveling legs would get. On our walks we encountered many strange creatures and former creatures, although most of them turned out to be crabs of some variation.
Free Dive
We began free diving in the Marquesas in April 2016. We started with some short fins and borrowed masks. As we sailed west through the south pacific we spent more time underwater than above. These pictures are from the Marquesas, the Tuamotus, the Society Islands, Niue, Tonga, Fiji and New Zealand. We’re still amateur divers, but in our time under water we have swam with whales, hammer head sharks, manta rays, innumerable fish and fishes, and have dove as deep as 100 feet on one breath. This is a small selection of the images we captured of divers in action.
Surf
Surfing is improbable and amazing. Surf culture is a bit of a bummer but we try not to get down on it cause surfing is too fun to give up. Dolphins do it, pelicans do it, we do it. Surfsafarastafari! More surfing pictures to come.
Sharks and Rays
When you see a shark you swim away. When we see a shark we go check it out.
Climb Rocks
These are images of some rock climbing and mountaineering we have done between leaving San Francisco and arriving in New Zealand nearly two years later. Some places we visited include Smith Rock, City of Rocks, The Tetons, Maine, Potrero Chico Mexico, Cerro Chiripo Costa Rica, a few small places in the south pacific, including the completely undeveloped limestone on the island nation of Niue and the fantastic Southern Alps.
